For the past four years, CADF has been a partner for the Austin American-Statesman Season for Caring campaign during the holiday season.
Program Success Stories
On Saturday, Deloris Fields and her son, Connor, reached a milestone — Connor’s first birthday and Fields’ 27th.
The day after Connor was born, doctors found that breast cancer from three years before had spread to bones throughout Fields’ body. Yet, she celebrates each day.
“I’m very blessed,” she says. “I’m very thankful. They didn’t think I would see Christmas (last year). I’m so blessed.”
She is filled with joy, but her birthday dinner wasn’t as joyous as it could be. Cancer treatments have badly damaged her teeth. In fact, just before Connor was born, the pain in one tooth was so bad, she had a dentist pull that tooth.
Augustin Huerta is a young man who dreams of going to college.of going to college. He lives with his family in a trailer park in an impoverished rural area and could never have afforded braces. Fortunately, Barry Rouch, was there to help. Dr. Rouch, a CADF volunteer provider and former board member, has been an active supporter of the Austin American-Statesman’s Season for Caring campaign that matches deserving families with nonprofits.
After several years of orthodontic treatment, Augustin now has a bright, healthy smile and is full of confidence. His mother, who was being treated for a serious illness, received dental care from another CADF volunteer and board member, Dr. Stanley LaCroix.

Jose Alacantar and his wife, Manuela (pictured right) lost almost all their belongings in the Halloween 2013 floods. The couple received life-changing dental care through CADF’s partnership in the Season for Caring program.
